Awesome spot for manatee watching at Bethune Beach. We got there and parked at the oceanfront, when you really need to park across the street by the inlet. Small park but we were able to see numerous manatees up close and a dolphin. Definitely recommend this spot, especially if you are going to kayak or paddleboard. Visited October 2013

Dogs are not allowed at Bethune Beach, which is at the southernmost end of A1A before your reach Canaveral National Seashore. The only place that dogs are allowed on the beach is at Dunes Park, which is on the northernmost part of New Smyrna Beach, at the Ponce Inlet. Dunes Park is managed by Volusia County, and there is an admission if you are driving. No cost for walkers or cyclists. There are sand trail out to the beach, and between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m., dogs can walk on the raised boardwalk. Dogs must be leashed. Back to the Canaveral National Seashore. Dogs are not permitted on the ocean side of the park, but can be walked on the bay/lagoon side.
