I agree .... most people are dressed for swimming. I'll just add that you do see lots of people wearing sunglasses (I did), and a few people with cameras. I guess the risk is that there's an off chance you go in the water unintentionally and then some subset of those people could lose glasses and (rightly so) the organizers don't want to be responsible for that. I'd say the chances are less than 1 in 100 but it depends on whether you'd like to take the risk. 99.5% of the time is spent on very gentle waters.
