In 1969, OARS became the first exclusively, non-motorized rafting company authorized by the National Park Service to run trips on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. In 1987, Grand Canyon Dories founder and conservationist, Martin Litton, passed the reins to OARS founder, George Wendt, so that he could carry on the dory legacy. Today, OARS & Grand Canyon Dories maintain an ongoing commitment to conservation and responsible travel through unequaled access to more rivers—by raft or dory—than any other organization in the world.

We are a fit couple in early 70’s are we too old ??? Like walking, but possibly not hiking. So I think reading most itineraries would need to join possibly up or is it down river . Hi Margaret. I floated the grand canyon with OARS. And my wife and i hiked to Phantom Ranch. We wrote about both of these trips on our blog at travelisbeautiful. Both OARS and Phantom are amazing. OARS was extremely professional. As to your question regarding a "fit couple in your 70's"...I suppose it depends on what "fit" is. There was a woman in her 70's on our OARS trip. She did just fine. But she was in good shape. To hike in or out of Phantom is along hike. It is 5000' from the rim to the bottom, and over 10 miles. So if you are able to do that type of hike....no problem. If you can't, then you should not go.
