Catastrophic flooding struck central Texas on Friday as the Guadalupe River surged by more than 20 to 26 feet within 90 minutes, causing widespread devastation and forcing mass evacuations in Texas Hill Country. At least 80 people have been killed in the floods while others remain missing or displaced and more than 850 people required rescuing.

Multiple parts of Central Texas, including Kerr County, were shocked by flash floods Friday when the Guadalupe River and others rose rapidly.

The search for missing bodies is ongoing along Texas’ Guadalupe River after catastrophic and deadly flooding killed more than 100 people following a torrential downpour early Friday morning.

A special session of the Texas Legislature will address the deadly floods in Hill Country, but the fireworks will come from President Trump’s demand for a newly gerrymandered House map.

First responders are scouring parts of central Texas after a severe storm brought flash floods that killed 81 people, including 27 children.

A flood watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding, according to the National Weather Service. It doesn't guarantee flooding will occur, but it means flooding is possible. Areas north of Dallas to the Red River will remain under flood watch until 7 a.m., according to the NWS in Fort Worth.

The groups also want lawmakers to examine land-use practices and consider ways to protect natural resources, which they say will in turn help protect lives.
