A new bill from the Texas legislature, that still needs a signature from Gov. Greg Abbott to become law, would make it easier for parents in the state to apply for vaccine exemptions for their children.

Exemption rates in Texas have been rising for nearly two decades, with a dramatic spike over the last five years.

Instead of waiting for the state to send them one, parents would be able to print out vaccine exemption forms at home if they want to skip school-required shots. Critics believe the bill would increase infections.
