Meryl Streep's writer nephew reveals in a larger feature on the LA fires' impact how his aunt went to extreme lengths to evacuate.

The three-time Oscar winner had to act quickly after a tree had blocked her car's path out of harm's way, according to an account from her nephew in New York Magazine.

Streep had to find another way. “Determined to make it out, she borrowed wire cutters from a neighbor, cut a car-size hole in the fence she shared with the neighbors on the other side, and drove through their yard to escape,” her nephew says in the story.
