Once the closure plan is completed, Lloyds will have 386 branches, Halifax 281 branches, and Bank of Scotland 90 branches. Lloyds attributed the branch closures to customers increasingly opting for mobile banking over in-person services.

The country is estimated to have lost well in excess of 6,000 branches since 2015, with alternatives struggling to help fill the void for people especially outside major towns or cities.

Among the Greater Manchester branches affected are the Lloyds in Farnworth, Bolton, which will close in May. The Halifax in Walkden, Salford, will be next to close in September, followed by Lloyds in Bury and Halifax in Bolton during the autumn. The Lloyds bank in Manchester Moston is then set to close next year.

Lloyds Banking Group has announced plans to close an additional 136 branches across the high street in a move that will impact numerous customers. The group intends to close 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland branches from May 2025 until March 2026.

The closure plan will bring the Lloyds brand down to 386 branches, Halifax down to 281 branches and Bank of Scotland to 90 branches once completed. Lloyds blamed the decision to shut the branches on customers shifting away from banking in person to using mobile services.

The retail bank said it would close 61 Lloyds branches along with 61 Halifax and 14 Bank of Scotland sites between May 2025 and March 2026. Staff working in the branches would be offered a role at another branch or in a different part of the business,
