Normalizing ties with Lebanon has emerged as Israel's new emphasis after it greatly weakened Iran-backed Hezbollah during a devastating war.

Israel and Lebanon have agreed to start talks “as soon as possible” on their disputed land border nearly four months after a ceasefire paused the most recent war between the two countries.

The announcement of discussions has sparked speculation about the possibility of a shift in bilateral ties and Hezbollah's possible disarmament.

Israeli reports that Israel and Lebanon are looking to normalize ties are "overblown" and risk hindering work being done to negotiate border security as Hezbollah remains a chief threat.

A military meeting in southern Lebanon on Tuesday led to an agreement between Israel and Lebanon on the next steps on the Blue Line.

"Just as Lebanon has claims regarding the borders, so do we. We will discuss these matters," an Israeli political source stated.

Israel released five Lebanese prisoners as the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that Israel and Lebanon plan to hold diplomatic talks on several contentious issues, including their disputed land border.
