The arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 heralds some much-needed improvements over its predecessor, especially its Joy-Con controllers. Here’s a quick breakdown of what the announcement trailer showed us about the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons.

After the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning, those rumors that you might be able to use your Joy-Con as a mouse are looking preeeeeeeeeetty good. During the reveal trailer, there's a moment where a pair of detached Joy-Cons are lowered onto a surface,

Perhaps more importantly, the video shows the Joy-Con clicking onto a separate piece before going into mouse mode. This other piece looks like it has some small pads on the bottom, like a computer mouse would, to make it a little easier to slide around.

Going against what we saw from some leakers, the Switch 2's Joy-Cons don't seem to feature curved backs like a lot of today's handheld PCs. At least their longer build will make it easier for folks with larger hands to grip them.

In addition, this debut look at the successor seemingly confirms that the Joy-Con controllers will indeed include mouse functionality. A brief segment of the footage shows both Joy-Con moving across a surface before snapping into the main body of the Switch 2.

At one point during the trailer, two Joy Cons can be seen being pushed by an invisable force along a flat service, their wrist straps out the back like little mouse tails. Meanwhile, there seems to be some kind of attachment that gives the side of the Joy-Con a smooth edge.

Nintendo has confirmed a new ‘C’ button on Switch 2 and appeared to tease mouse controls, but full details on both remain unclear. During its official Switch 2 reveal video, which showed the Switch ‘s successor for the first time, Nintendo showed numerous shots of the full console.
