On Friday, Castlemont High School held a graduation ceremony in Oakland without one of its most inspiring teachers. Marvin Boomer, a math teacher who led the school’s college preparatory program, was killed while walking with his girlfriend on East 21st Street in Oakland just two days before his senior students received their diplomas.

His death cast a pall over the East Oakland high school, which had its graduation Friday afternoon at the Paramount Theater.
