Matthew the Raven, a loyal servant of Morpheus, perseveres through the loss in his own manner. In The Sandman Season 2 Episode 11, his dialogue is more subdued but rich. He represents a loyalist—one who clings to the old order and finds the new reality difficult to accept. Matthew doesn’t shun Daniel, but evidently hasn’t accepted him either.
A wake is held to honor Morpheus, as those who loved him pay tribute and each of his brothers and sisters gets a chance to speak. In the end, they welcome the new Dream with open arms, and in doing so, welcome change and move forward with a new Dream.
Netflix’s The Sandman stays fairly faithful to Neil Gaiman’s comic book series, though showrunner Allan Heinberg changed some of the source material in order to make protagonist Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) more likeable,
