Five days after a huge fire at one of the world’s largest battery storage plants in Moss Landing, Gov. Gavin Newsom has called for an investigation into the blaze, which has jolted California’s renewable energy industry.

A county hotline has also been established for residents to call officials with any questions about the air quality and best practices for keeping safe.

Probably the only reasonable response to such a speech.

Residents living near a power plant in Central California were ordered to evacuate Thursday night after a fire broke out at the facility.

Our citizens are very alarmed,” one Morro Bay resident said, after the fire along Monterey Bay forced 1,200 people to evacuate.

A plume of material released from the plant contained hydroflouride, a toxic gas, that is now being monitored by Monterey County.

As the fire lithium battery storage facility that led to evacuations in Moss Landing last week continues to smolder days later, concerns are being raised about the impacts to the surrounding environment.

The Moss Landing battery plant fire has sparked concerns that Morro Bay isn’t the right place for a similar facility. On Monday, one California State Assembly member echoed the calls of those constituents — and urged Texas-based energy company Vistra Corp.
