Central Park's New Year's Eve drone show was cancelled following a drone accident in Florida that left a child severely injured. The organizers were unable to arrange an alternative event in time.

Both Central and Prospect Parks are planning drone shows on New Year’s Eve, after canceling their usual fireworks displays.

With Dec. 31 less than a week away, the Central Park show could not go on, according to New York Road Runners, the group that organizes the still-happening Midnight Run through the park on New Year’s Eve. The drone show, like the fireworks most years, was meant to accompany the run.

As CBS News New York's Alecia Reid reports, the decision comes after a young boy in Florida suffered severe injuries when a drone crashed into him.
