ANN ARBOR, MI - Santa Ono said he came to the University of Michigan to rebuilt trust in the institution. He is now gone after less than three years. Ono, 62, announced Sunday he will step down as president and intends to take the same job at the University of Florida.

On Sunday, Ono dropped the bombshell news that he had chosen to leave Ann Arbor for the University of Florida to assume the same position in Gainesville, Florida. "I have informed the Chair of the University of Michigan Board of Regents, Kathy White, of my decision," Ono wrote in a message shared Sunday.
