Following the official announcement of the Severance Season 3 renewal last March, the acclaimed sci-fi drama has now received a brand new update for its next installment. It has been confirmed that executive producer Ben Stiller will not be directing Season 3 for the first time since the show debuted in 2022.
Stiller has directed most episodes of the Apple TV hit so far, but season three poses some scheduling conflicts.
The Zoolander star is still expected to stay on as a producer on Severance, even if he can't physically be on set to direct episodes in Season 3. Even after taking this step back, I assume Stiller will continue engaging with fans of the show on social media.

Severance boss Ben Stiller has responded to a big announcement about season 3. The Meet the Parents and Zoolander actor isn't just the executive producer of the Apple TV+ series, but also its primary director. He helmed six out of nine episodes of season 1, and five out of 10 episodes of season 2.
The Zoolander star previously directed most of the first two seasons of Severance, working on 11 of the show's 19 previously aired episodes. He will still serve as a writer and executive producer for season three, but will leave the director's chair for someone else.
It's yet to be confirmed when Severance will be back on our screens with season 3, but we do know that the upcoming instalment will have one major absence. Ben Stiller, one of the wildly popular Apple TV+ show ’s producers and directors, won't be back behind the camera next season.
