A tornado watch was in effect for much of Illinois, including the Chicago area, and Indiana Sunday afternoon. The tornado watch has since been dropped for all of Illinois, but remained in effect for all of Northwest Indiana as of 3:11 p.

A tornado watch has been issued for some counties in Indiana, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the central and southern parts of the state on Sunday evening and overnight hours. Thunderstorms are predicted to move though Kentucky to Indiana at 7 PM local time.

Monroe County, along with swaths of Illinois and Indiana, is under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. Sunday ahead of expected severe weather. Portions of Kentucky and Missouri are also under the watch.

The tornado watch is in effect till 7 p.m. for Chicago, the surrounding south and west suburbs and northwest Indiana. The National Weather Service warns of tornadoes, hail the size of ping-pong balls and 70 mph winds.

The National Weather Service (NWS) will conduct storm surveys later today in three area counties Monday. One survey will take place in northern Butler County through northern Warren County into northwest Clinton County,

The National Weather Service released an updated tornado warning at 6:41 p.m. EDT on Sunday in effect until 7:15 p.m. EDT for Ingham County.
