Canadian wildfire smoke no longer lingers in Michigan as of July 18. Southwest Michigan will experience unhealthy air for sensitive groups on July 21.

An Air Quality Alert has been issued for parts of northern New York and Vermont today because of Canadian wildfire smoke.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The air quality Tuesday for a number of West Michigan counties has been flagged as “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” environmental officials say.

Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana all have air quality alerts, while Chicago's air quality currently ranks in the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category.

As of Tuesday morning, the Air Quality Index in Milwaukee was between 115 to 120, which falls in the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category.

In addition, concentrations of fine particle air pollution are expected to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive individuals at elevations above 3,000 feet on Wednesday June 4.

“These conditions will allow ozone to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category in areas along and south of the I-95 corridor.
