Christian Wilkins ' time with the Las Vegas Raiders has come to an abrupt and surprising end. Just 16 months after signing a massive $110 million contract to become a centerpiece of their defensive line, the former Clemson star is now a free agent.

Just over a year after making Christian Wilkins one of the highest-paid defensive linemen in the NFL, the Las Vegas Raiders are moving on. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have released Wilkins with the designation of a terminated vested veteran—voiding the remainder of his guaranteed money in the process.

Wilkins was mysteriously released by the Raiders on Thursday, which the team attributed to the way he was treating the rehab for a foot injury that kept him sidelined for most of last season. Las Vegas cut ties just one season into his five-year, $110 million pact.
