Williams boss James Vowles has revealed Franco Colapinto, who recently signed as a reserve driver with Alpine, has a deal in place to return to Williams in the future.

Argentine driver Franco Colapinto will return eventually to Williams after joining Formula One rivals Alpine as reserve, team principal James Vowles said on Friday. Colapinto, 21, made nine starts with Williams last year after being drafted in as replacement for dropped American Logan Sargeant.

Colapinto, 21, turned heads last summer by scoring in two of nine races after replacing American Logan Sargeant at Williams.

Last Formula 1 season Franco Colapinto catapulted into stardom. Named as a midseason replacement at Williams for Logan Sargeant, the young driver impressed in his first races on the grid. Colapinto finished 12 in his debut in Monza and then finished in the points in both the Azerbaijan Grand Prix (where he finished eighth) and the United States Grand Prix (where he finished tenth).
