Dempsey starred as the Los Angeles Police Department detective in 2003's Scream 3, opposite Campbell's Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox 's Gale Weathers and David Arquette 's Dewey Riley.

Elsewhere, original cast members Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and Matthew Lillard (Stu Macher) have all been confirmed to return for Scream 7.

With Patrick Dempsey not returning as Mark Kincaid in Scream 7, it has saved the movie from repeating a controversial mistake from the reboot movies.

While it remains to be seen if Dempsey will put pen to paper, there is still a hold out from Courtney Cox who plays the iconic Gale Weathers as well.
