Kelly Ripa revealed to guest 'Live with Kelly and Mark' co-host Andy Cohen that when she quit drinking in 2017 that she unexpectedly gained weight, and even revealed how much weight she gained at the time.

In the show’s opening segment, the Watch What Happens Live host revealed how he’s currently taking part in “Dry January” and swearing off alcohol for the entire month. Sharing his experience, Cohen said that “usually a little weight loss comes my way after,” before joking, “not really happening yet.”

“I told you when I quit drinking, I expected there to be this windfall of weight loss,” Ripa explained to Cohen during the Jan. 22 show. “Because everybody’s like, ‘Well you are going to get too skinny, and you can’t blah blah blah.’ I gained 12 pounds. I don’t understand this ‘magical weight loss thing.’”
