The Penguins have already made a couple of moves this week as the deadline looms, and from what I'm hearing, they aren't done yet.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on pace to miss the playoffs for the third consecutive season. General manager Kyle Dubas reportedly set out to shop anyone aside from core players such as Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and several other assets.

Since becoming the Penguins general manager, Kyle Dubas has faced heavy criticism for moves that he has made. Pittsburgh sports fans are just babies that want to cry about everything. Dubas had one goal at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline which was to acquire assets to get the rebuild underway and he did that.

The Penguins never came close to trading Rickard Rakell before Friday’s NHL trade deadline. Oh, there was heavy interest. The Penguins received substantial offers from teams eager to add one of the most gifted goal scorers on the market.

Karlsson, 34, carries a $10 million cap hit for two more seasons after this one, with the San Jose Sharks already retaining $1.5 million of his total $11.5 million salary. He's in the sixth season of the eight-year, $92 million contract he signed in 2019.

The Penguins should hold Matt Grzelcyk's offensive abilities close with a lack of that skill in their pipeline.

The blueliner's name has surfaced in recent trade discussions, along with those of fellow veteran Penguins stars Evgeni Malkin and team captain Sidney Crosby. Karlsson, however, made it clear on Sunday that any potential move is entirely up to him, so he's not worried about it for now.
