Actor Alec Baldwin has filed a civil lawsuit for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the Western movie “Rust.”

Alec Baldwin on Thursday sued New Mexico prosecutors, sheriff's office officials and others, alleging malicious prosecution and civil rights violations in the 2021 "Rust" shooting trial. The lawsuit filed in a Santa Fe court follows the dramatic dismissal of Baldwin's case during his July manslaughter trial in the New Mexico capital.

Alec Baldwin sued prosecutors for malicious abuse of process, defamation and violation of the New Mexico Civil Rights Act, per court docs obtained by PEOPLE. In December, prosecutors dropped their notice to appeal five months after an involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin was dismissed.
