As a winter storm approaches Western North Carolina, most of the 5,700 households in FEMA hotel voucher housing have been deemed ineligible.

FEMA is extending its Transitional Sheltering Assistance Program to Jan. 25 for residents of North Carolina who were displaced by Hurricane Helene.

This is the third extension FEMA has granted displaced residents using the agency’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program in the last week. The agency most recently granted a 48-hour extension, citing the winter storm that barreled through WNC Jan. 10, with check-out slated for Jan. 14.
