The Powerball winning numbers are in for the Wednesday, Jan. 1 drawing with a New Year's Day jackpot that reached an estimated $178 million ($80.7 million cash value). The largest winning Powerball jackpot ticket sold in Michigan was worth $842.

The Powerball jackpot increased once again when it remained unclaimed after Wednesday's drawing, but the New Year's first lotto pull still proved to be lucky for some. On Wednesday, the jackpot was worth an estimated $181 million,

The lottery jackpot was an estimated $163 million with a cash option of $73.9 million for Monday night's drawing, according to the Powerball website. The jackpot was last won on Dec. 7 when a New York lottery player won a $256 million Powerball jackpot.

A Powerball ticket sold in California won $32,644, but just missed the $181 million jackpot, lottery officials say. The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, Jan. 1, the California Lottery said.
