President Donald Trump on Monday imposed a 25% tariff on one of the Mid-South’s largest exports. All steel and aluminum imports into the United States are subject to the tariff with no exceptions or exemptions.

Trump set a 25% tariff, essentially a tax, on any steel and aluminum coming into the United States. As a result, consumers could expect to pay more for a wide range of products, from appliances and automobiles to canned beverages and sporting goods.

The president’s plan to impose 25 percent tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum could protect U.S. suppliers, while increasing costs for others.
