With the bond issue, the district also plans to convert two elementary schools to K-8, consolidate alternative learning programs and build a new early childhood center, a new Future Ready Center for Trades at East High School and new athletic fields at Northeast High School.

The Wichita school district is hosting a series of open houses during which members of the community can tour school buildings and ask questions about a proposed $450 million bond issue.

School bond taxes on a $100,000 home would cost $86.25 a year and $1,725 total. For a $200,000 house, taxes tied to the school bond would be $172.50 a year and $3,450 total. Owners of $300,000 homes would pay $258.75 a year and $5,175 total. But property values don’t remain flat.
