The court’s decision comes just over a month after the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey, said it would drop its fight against the state’s efforts to empanel the grand jury.

New Jersey’s Supreme Court says the state can have a grand jury investigate allegations of clergy sexually abusing children and report findings.

The highest court in New Jersey ruled that a grand jury should be permitted to examine sexual abuse allegations of children against clergy members in the Catholic Church. The Supreme Court ruling comes after the Diocese of Camden attempted to block the state attorney general’s efforts to create a grand jury two years ago.
