Four detainees broke through a wall and managed to escape from a federal immigration detention center in Newark, New Jersey, amid reports of disorder breaking out there, according to Sen. Andy Kim and the Department of Homeland Security.
Pennsylvania’s Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Clearfield County is one of the biggest immigrant detention facilities in the country.
The indictment charges McIver with "forcibly impeding and interfering with federal law enforcement officers," New Jersey U.S. Attorney Alina Habba said.
Some of the allegations from detained immigrants include, sleeping on concrete floors without mattresses or sheets, unable to shower, and denial of menstrual products.
A 19-year-old University of Utah student was detained by immigration agents last week while traveling in Colorado and is now being held at an immigration center there.
