(Reuters) -Gucci owner Kering is planning to appoint Luca de Meo, currently CEO of French carmaker Renault, as its new chief executive, according to a report in newspaper Le Figaro.

Shares of Kering jumped Monday after reports trickled out beginning Sunday that Kering planned to tap Luca de Meo as its new CEO. The stock closed 13.5% higher.

Kering shares were trading up 7.2% by 8:34 a.m. London time as investors and analysts cheered reports that industry outsider Luca de Meo was set to become group CEO.

De Meo joined Renault in 2020, a year when it reported record losses. In the years since, he has cut jobs, costs and production capacity, making the company smaller but nimbler.
