A large group of protesters on Wednesday vandalised and set on fire Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's residence in Dhaka during a live online address of his daughter and deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

A mob vandalised the residence of Bangladesh's founding leader, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in Dhaka on Wednesday evening, Dhaka Tribune reported. Visuals showed flames on one of the floors of the house.

The house became an iconic symbol in Bangladesh history as Sheikh Mujib largely led the pre-independence autonomy movement for decades from here.

Bangladesh: "They are yet to have the strength to destroy the national flag, the constitution and the independence that we earned at the cost of lives of millions of martyrs with a bulldozer," said Sheikh Hasina.

The attack on Dhanmondi-32, a historic monument, was part of the 'Bulldozer Procession' rally, which aimed to disrupt Sheikh Hasina's live social media address Wednesday.

The incident took place just a day after Hasina delivered an online speech urging Awami League supporters to protest against the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, according to a report

A mob vandalised Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's residence in Dhaka, causing significant destruction and setting parts of the house on fire. The protesters reportedly demanded a ban on the Awami League, breaking open the gate to enter the premises.

DHAKA: The Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum in Dhaka was attacked again by a group called '24-er Biplobi Chhatra Janata' on Wednesday. The protest began around 8pm when demonstrators entered the premises and vandalised the museum.
