It’s the biggest week of the year for high school wrestling fans. By the end of three exciting days in Atlantic City, 12 champions will emerge at the 2024 NJSIAA/IBEW Local 102 State Girls Wrestling Championships.

The second annual Rhode Island girls wrestling state championships saw significant growth, with 50 participants across 12 weight classes, compared to 31 wrestlers in fewer weight classes the previous year. Scituate High School won the team title with 105 points, led by individual champions Jolene Cole, Chloe Ross, and Abigail Otte.

Burden stormed through the field, capturing the 130-pound state championship in the high school girls individual wrestling state finals at Ford Field. One of 12 Bay City area qualifiers this season, she is the area’s second state champion in the four-year history of the MHSAA girls championships.

A whopping 448 wrestlers will take the stage at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Thursday with the hope of reaching the top of the podium on Saturday. Only 14 kids are able to do that every year, but eight wrestlers will take a spot on the podium at every weight, meaning 112 athletes will leave with a medal.
