Barclays, one of the world's largest banks and the second largest bank in England, reported issues Friday with its mobile app, online banking services and customer accounts as thousands of people reported problems accessing their financial information.

Hundreds of people have been left unable to access their Barclays account – just in time for payday. Customers began reporting issues using the mobile banking app and making and receiving payments since 10am.

But the bank’s response to complaints has angered some customers, with one X (formerly Twitter) user being advised to contact the Trussell Trust, a charity which runs food banks, after informing Barclays she has “no access to money” and is unable to feed her children.

Barclays banking services disruption is expected to last into Sunday due to an IT glitch, affecting payments and account balances. The bank said it is working to resolve issues and has assured customers they won’t be left out of pocket amid ongoing frustrations.
