Researchers at the University of Southampton are developing information processing technology based on the chemical processes found in living systems.

A full constellation of interacting ions can then be found inside the nanoparticle, which could become a small quantum information processing system.

Information processing comes to a halt until the system is back up and running. Even central systems with robust backup capabilities are still prone to disruptive failures.
