President Donald Trump endorsed Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones on Monday to become the state’s next governor. Jones is challenging Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr to win the Republican nomination for governor ahead of the 2026 election to replace term-limited Republican Gov.

Trump praised Jones for his loyalty in a post on Truth Social, and highlighted his collegiate athletic accomplishments. Jones also served in the Georgia State Assembly for 10 years, before becoming the state's second in command in 2023.

Carter jumped in the race in May, and has $4.1 million in his account, according to the latest FEC filing, despite lacking Collins’ high-profile endorsement roster. He has already spent more than $2 million on ads to bolster his name ID, and is heavily courting people in Trump world to create distance between himself and his rivals.
