Former Kansas head coach David Beaty is now the head coach at Denton (Texas) High School, the school announced Tuesday.

The former KU coach is a native of Garland, Texas. Beaty began his coaching career at North Dallas High School in 2001 before serving as a head coach at Irving MacArthur High School from 2002-05. Beaty compiled a 39-15 record as the head coach of North Dallas and Irving MacArthur.

The Garland, Texas, native now returns to his high school football coaching roots. Beaty was a head coach at North Dallas and Irving MacArthur before starting his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Rice. He replaces former Denton head coach Billy Miller.

Denton High hasn’t had a winning season in football in nearly a decade. The school is hoping that a former Big 12 head coach can change that. Denton ISD’s Board of School Trustees approved the hire of David Beaty to be Denton’s new head football coach and athletic coordinator at a board meeting Monday night.
