WASHINGTON — President Trump yanked his former national security adviser John Bolton’s Secret Service protective detail Tuesday — one day after canceling Bolton’s security clearance citing a 2020 tell-all book.
President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had granted Bolton and another Trump national security adviser protection in 2021 after threats from Iran.

Bolton departed the first Trump admin in 2019 and has continued to require Secret Service protection due to threats from Iran.
Trump revoked Bolton’s protection the day after being sworn in for his second, nonconsecutive term as president. Bolton had been facing assassination threats after the U.S. killed Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani in 2020.
