Jerry Jones has fired former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus to serve as the team's next defensive coordinator, and fan reactions are exactly what you'd expect.

The news comes after the Cowboys promoted Brian Schottenheimer, after two seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator, to replace Mike McCarthy as the team’s next head coach. So far, besides the Patriots and Vrabel, Lions coordinators Ben Johnson (Bears) and Aaron Glenn (Jets) have been scooped up in the coaching carousel.

Stability can be gained by adding experience. Similar to 2015, the Bears’ search feels purposeful after the team failed with Eberflus, who lacked previous head coaching experience. In 2022, the Bears chose Eberflus over Dan Quinn and Jim Caldwell, their two other finalists, both of whom had been head coaches.

Johnson's deal is expected to be completed soon, and he already is working to assemble a staff. That process is subject to the Rooney Rule, too, and will take time.
