A Japanese tourist who died after jumping from a popular Far North Queensland waterfall last month walked past signs warning of the dangers of the waterway.

Sisira Gajanayake, 59, and his son, Themiya Gajanayake, 21, were both pulled from the water unresponsive at Crystal Cascade swimming hole, about 20km west of Cairns.

The 20-year-old tourist was reported missing on Sunday afternoon with police divers joining the search for the man yesterday.
