AUSTIN – It is now in the hands of the Texas House to decide what to do about a new property tax cut plan. The author of the Senate's plan calls it the largest exemption increase in state history.
The marquee proposal would increase the amount of a home’s value exemption from school taxes to $140,000 from $100,000.
The proposal costs about $2.7 billion. With the combined tax rate compression and increased homestead exemption, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick estimated it would cost about $32.2 billion for the state.
