At least five Northwest Indiana KFC restaurants abruptly closed Friday with little warning. The KFCs in Valparaiso, Gary, Portage, Hobart and Michigan City all shuttered.

A log cabin on Scotland Road in Akron sustained about $250,000 in damage in a fire Sunday night, according to the Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office. No injuries were reported.
