The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday they placed star forward Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. The Athletic's Rob Rossi reported Malkin is expected to miss a few weeks.

Malkin, in his 19th season with the Penguins, has one year remaining on his contract. The good news is that the injured knee is not the one that has endured two full ACL reconstructions.
