The lottery jackpot was an estimated $220 million with a cash option of $98.4 million for Monday night's drawing, according to the Powerball website. The jackpot was last won on Dec. 7 when a New York lottery player won a $256 million Powerball jackpot.

“We know that many people will likely receive tickets to Friday’s drawing as holiday gifts, and what a gift that would turn out to be if you ended up with a ticket worth a $1.15 billion jackpot,” Joshua Johnston, lead director for the Mega Millions Consortium, said in a news release before the jackpot rose again to $1.22 billion.

The jackpot for Monday's Powerball drawing rose to $220 million after no one won the big prize on Saturday. If someone matches all six numbers, they can choose a one-time cash payment of $98.
