The next full moon, known as the Worm Moon, occurs Thursday, March 13, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. A full moon will appear full for a couple of days before it moves into its next phase, according to NASA.

Hundreds of millions of Americans will have the chance in March to see the first total lunar eclipse in nearly three years.

The total lunar eclipse coming March 13-14 will last for hours and totality will be visible for more than 60 minutes.

To witness the lunar eclipse, UK observers should set their sights on the heavens on March 14, 2025. Visibility will vary globally, with North and South America privy to the full display, but even from the UK, the initial penumbral shading will be visible.

A blood moon is coming. The entirety of the lower 48 states, the greater Americas, and some regions beyond will witness — weather permitting — a total lunar eclipse the night of March 13 and into the early morning of March 14.

The Royal Observatory has announced that the Moon will begin to enter Earth's outer shadow at 3.57am UK time, with the best viewing time for the eclipse in the UK being around 6.19am. Unfortunately, by the time the eclipse reaches its peak at 6.58am, the Moon will have already set below the horizon.

The partial lunar eclipse can be seen from the UK on March 14, 2025. How much of the eclipse people see will depend on where they are in the world. North and South America will see the entire eclipse, but UK viewers will be able to catch the penumbral eclipse, the first phase of the eclipse when the Earth's outer shadow falls on the Moon's surface.
