President Trump is the first president to use a declared emergency to wrest control of Washington, D.C.’s police force.

The Pentagon is preparing a deployment of additional U.S. National Guard troops in more cities. This comes just days after President Donald Trump deployed the first set of troops to Washington, D.C., to the nation’s capital.

Earlier this week, Trump also threatened to deploy the National Guard as part of a crackdown on what he falsely says is rising crime in Washington.
