Roley, 20, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday after attacking firefighters responding to the blaze he set.

Firefighters were ambushed by sniper fire while responding to a blaze in a northern Idaho mountain community on Sunday, killing at least two people and unleashing barrages of gunfire over several hours in an attack the governor called a "heinous" assault.

“Multiple heroic firefighters were attacked today while responding to a fire in North Idaho,” Governor Brad Little wrote on X. “This is a heinous direct assault on our brave firefighters. I ask all Idahoans to pray for them and their families as we wait to learn more.” The suspect remains at large.
