After weeks of delays, Texas Republicans who control the state House are slated to begin the process for their controversial redistricting plan.
About 5,000 people gathered at the Capitol on Saturday to protest President Trump and the Texas Legislature’s plan to redraw the state’s congressional districts to give Republicans more seats in the U.
Returning Democrats were met with restrictions to their movement, including being under the watchful eye of state police officers to ensure their attendance is not temporary.
The "Fight the Trump Takeover" rallies will take place this weekend. In Austin, the protest will take place at the Texas State Capitol from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will be attended by Austin Reps. Greg Casar and Lloyd Doggett, Beto O'Rourke and renowned civil rights and labor leader Dolores Huerta ., according to the official event page.
