Legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead Wednesday in their New Mexico home, along with their dog, in circumstances officials deemed “suspicious enough” to warrant thorough investigation.

The intense character actor who won two Oscars in a more than 60-year career, died of unknown causes at home, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa as well as one of their dogs.

Gene Hackman, two-time Oscar winner and star of 'The French Connection', has been found dead in his Santa Fe home with his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office.
