Firefighters rescued a person in a wheelchair, a dog and two cats from a fire in an apartment building in Mobile that displaced six families on Christmas morning. Rescuers were dispatched at 7:19 a.m. Wednesday and arrived to a building engulfed in smoke which could be seen in second-floor apartments.

An Oakland man died in a house fire Wednesday morning after safely getting his family out of the home, the fire department said.
