Three people were killed in separate fireworks-related incidents in Southern California over the Independence Day weekend.

A young girl was killed after a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July in Buena Park, authorities said. In a news release, the Buena Park Police Department said officers responded to the 8000 block of Cornflower Circle after seeing large quantities of fireworks at about 9:45 p.

A large illegal fireworks display, placed in the street by the homeowner, failed and began misfiring toward the home where the child was, police said.
